Zuiderparktheater is the backyard for Escamp this summer

With the art installation A Mile in My Shoes, a matching City Session by the Residentie Orkest with Haags Hiphop Centrum and the Repair Café, Zuiderparktheater opens its season as Escamp's back garden on Saturday 25 June. As an open-air theatre in The Hague's city park, we also open the gate wide to our surrounding neighbours. That means there is a lot to see and experience for free or for a very small fee.

"The Zuiderpark Theatre is of course known as a concert venue. Together with Greenhouse Talent, we bring (inter)national artists to the Zuiderpark. Besides being a stage, it is an island where we put up a surprising programme with Holiday Park for everyone who doesn't or can't go on holiday in summer. We want to be the backyard for the surrounding neighbourhood. Especially at a time when many families have a lot going on, we are a place for relaxation, encounters and a positive diversion,'' says Annemarie de Bruijn, programme maker Zuiderparktheater.

Festive day from 11am

This year, Repair Café The Hague will again be a regular guest at Zuiderparktheater. Volunteers repair appliances and clothes free of charge so they can last another round. Not only sustainable, but also nice for everyone's wallet. Repairs must be registered in advance. The link can be found on our website. At noon, you can listen to rappers Martijn and D.Chesron who have created matching raps to the stories from the shoebox. The brass quintet of the Residentie Orkest will provide the musical accompaniment. To make the party complete, there will be tasty snacks! After this festive opening, you can visit the shop until 4pm. For people with a Stork pass, there will be free coffee, tea and lemonade. Throughout the summer, this will be there for Ooievaarspas cardholders.

In other people's shoes

Winternachten has succeeded in bringing A Mile in My Shoes, an interactive art project by British artist Clare Patey, to The Hague. Here, visitors literally stand in someone else's shoes and hear someone's story during a short walk. For Winternachten, stories from The Hague were added to the 'shoebox'. From Wednesday 22 June to Sunday 17 June, the shoebox will be in the theatre.

Summer programme

Throughout the summer, there are free activities with which Zuiderparktheater actively collaborates with all kinds of organisations from The Hague for programme or outreach to Escamp residents. These are

the Ooievaarspas, Vakantiepas, De Participatie Keuken, WijkZ, Bibliotheek Den Haag, Theater Dakota, Superkracht and Ready2 Play. The programme is available via www.zuiderparktheater.nl/achtertuin
