The underground music festival Festerfest that was supposed to take place at Openluchttheater Zuiderpark this Saturday 3 October has been cancelled. After last Monday evening's press conference and tightening of corona measures, dark clouds were gathering over the festival. This was extra wry because that afternoon it was clear the festival was completely sold out with 150 tickets. Zuiderparktheater currently has no clarity as to whether the open-air theatre will get an exemption for more than 40 people. This removed the uncertainty that this would mean the festival would have to be cancelled at the very last minute for artists and visitors.
Both the organisers of the Fester Events foundation and the staff of the Zuiderparktheater are extremely disappointed that the well-run cooperation was not crowned with a great edition of Festerfest. Frank van Hekezen, organiser: "I was very much looking forward to letting people experience a festival-like setting again and letting hard alternative bands play in front of a somewhat larger audience again. Be it within already applicable 1.5m restrictions. In my opinion, that would have been quite possible, but unfortunately current events have overtaken that endeavour. This year would have the most diverse line-up to date and I look with some pride at the festival's ever-improving achievement of its central objective, which is to bring across the diversity and quality of underground music in all its facets. Festerfest will therefore continue. Boundaries will once again be broken. It just won't be now, but later."
The South Park Theatre will approach ticket buyers with the option to donate or get the money refunded. The performance 'Balls 2.0 - by The Stamped Girls' on Sunday at 3pm will go ahead, for which there is a capacity of 40 people.
