Travelling the world in your own city
The summer programme at The Hague's open-air theatre is more international than ever this summer. With a mix from as many as five different continents, everyone can go on a world tour on their own city's atmospheric theatre island. From topnotch American jazz, to swinging Latin, rhythmic afrobeats and British radio pop. The jam-packed agenda offers something for everyone. On Sunday 5 May, there will be a small-scale kick-off with the Freedom Meal, followed by the first international act on Saturday 18 May. For the programme, go to zuiderparktheater.nl/agenda.
Concert promoter Greenhouse Talent has managed to book another brilliant line-up of international artists for this summer. Under the banner of Zuiderpark Live, 19 concerts have been planned so far, some of which are already sold out. Some announcements will follow. British band The Waterboys will kick off, while fellow countrywoman Birdy, Irish folk singer Glen Hansard, American formation Fun Lovin' Criminals ft. Rude Boy and new generation jazz artist Jose James will make an appearance. There will also be a host of homegrown artists: S10, Douwe Bob, Floor Jansen and Diggy Dex. Soul diva Shirma Rousse will come with the orchestra Royal Air Force for an ode to Aretha Franklin.
Other continents are being tapped with the arrival of Latin in the Park, this year two editions dedicated to Venezuela and Colombia. The first confirmed children's performances at the Holiday Park have a Surinamese and Italian/Spanish flavour, completing the world tour this summer. For local residents, there is also another diverse programme to experience in their 'backyard'.
"In a city of 180 nationalities, as a theatre we want to be the place where everyone feels at home. How else can that be done than to put on a worldly programme as a summer stage? We are proud of this unique line-up and hope to see as many nationalities on our theatre island this year." - Berend Dikkers director.
About the Zuiderpark Theatre
The Hague summer stage is located on an island in the Zuiderpark. Open from May to September, it is South Holland's only open-air theatre. In 2023, it attracted 38,500 island guests to the programmes of Zuiderpark Live (concerts), Vakantiepark (children's programme), Latin in the Park, festivals and various collaborative projects. The theatre is run by a small team and over 100 volunteers.
