Jazz in the Park #2 gets a Surinamese touch

Friday 30 June sees Jazz in the Park #2 take place, this time a summery and festive Caribbean Vibes. With a quartet of mini festivals, jazz musician Michael Varekamp treats at the Zuiderparktheatre this summer. The second evening will have a Surinamese flavour on the eve of Keti Koti.

The 10-member Kaskawi band Ondrofeni will start the evening. This band puts the whole park in Caribbean spheres as well as in motion. Michael Varekamp then dives into Caribbean and other roots himself with Narrative, his new all-star band. Explosive, funky and danceable. He draws inspiration from everything that makes jazz delicious. Expect a setlist full of improvisation, the blues and the groove. Special guest is Paramaribo-born and now legendary flautist Ronald Snijders. As winner of the Boy Edgar Prize, it is an honour to host him. Presenting this evening is Lucinda Sedoc, the cabaret performer also has Surinamese roots.

Of course, DJ collective Tabass-Co, food trucks and more surprises will also be present this evening to transform the theatre island into an inspiring festival ground.
