On Thursday 25 May next, open-air theatre in The Hague's Zuiderpark kicks off the first of four mini-jazz festivals. The first edition is dedicated to Soul Vibes. For this evening, jazz trumpeter Michael Varekamp from The Hague has invited soul singers Steffen Morrison and Yerry Rellum. Regular ensemble The Legends with Hammond organist Wiboud Burkens will also play along with classics by James Brown, Otis Redding and Stevie Wonder. The funky groove band DANDANA will take care of the first part of the evening. DJ collective Tabass-co will again be present for all the musical entertainment on the theatre island. And there will be delicious food from the food trucks and ice-cold drinks for the ultimate festival feeling.
This season, Michael Varekamp and Zuiderpark Theatre are again collaborating under the banner Jazz in the Park. "Due to the great success of last season, four balmy summer evenings are now planned. An evening where the sparks fly! Masterful musicians will be challenged to push their boundaries. We let everyone imagine themselves at legendary places like Woodstock or The Isle of Wight," said Michael Varekamp.
The editions later this year:
Jazz in the Park 2: Carribean Vibes with Ronald Snijders and Narrative, Friday 30 June
Jazz in the Park 3: Guitar Vibes with Jerome Hol, Friday, September 1
Jazz in the Park 4: Miles Vibes with Manoushka Zegelaar Breeveld, Saturday 23 September. Ticket sales for all editions have started.
