Mayor van Zanen, Steven Kazan and 1,350 children open 2023 summer holidays

This afternoon was a big party at the Zuiderpark Theatre. Mayor van Zanen, Steven Kazan and the 1,350 children present with their parents opened the 2023 summer holidays. The summer holidays are fun when you travel away, but there is also lots to do in the city! With the VakantiePas, every primary school pupil in The Hague can discover just that. The Zuiderpark Holiday Park that can be visited for free for six weeks is one of those many places.

South Park Holiday Park
The Zuiderpark Holiday Park will be open until Thursday 17 August. On Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, everyone can drop by for the ultimate holiday feeling on The Hague's nicest uninhabited island. There are daily changing workshops, small performances. Every Wednesday, there is a big show on stage such as that of the Meneertjes Slodde en Vos and a real trapeze show! Highlight this year is the Super Moon, as the Zuiderpark celebrates its birthday and turns 100! Throughout the summer, children will work with the artists from Grofweg Architects and teachers from Rewire to collect and record sounds, memories and events about the Zuiderpark. The latest new additions to the Zuiderpark Holiday Park programme are the musical wonder theatre 'Anansi, stronger than the elephant' on Wednesday 16 August and performances on Thursday afternoons on the flat cart, such as Saint Lucy, Chattermag , Yfke Posthuma and Ready to Play. But those who just want to lounge in the hammock or play a game of ping-pong are also welcome.

Nature!
Besides sports and culture, nature will also get attention this year at the Zuiderpark Holiday Park. On Wednesday 2 and Thursday 3 August, there will be excursions with the Zuiderpark forester, the Verlootjezooitje boat will moor and One Planet (Museon/Omniversum) will visit on three Wednesdays with the Museumlab. On Tuesday 25 July you can go supping on the canals around the theatre. From your supboard, help to clean up the water in collaboration with Supbinckies and 2Samen. With the VakantiePas, you can do treasure hunts at the farm, go on a ditch safari and discover small animals, ride a pony, watch shooting stars, cuddle chickens, pick fruit, canoe and row. Get outside!

Holiday post
Rather write a postcard than digital mail? This summer, too, children from The Hague can write personal messages and decorate postcards to be delivered to senior citizens living in Florence residential care centres. The cards are made in cooperation with the Holiday Pass, 2Samen and the Zuiderparktheater. During the kick-off, Lieke de Liefde accepted the first Holiday Post.

The Holiday Pass
The VakantiePas is a small booklet containing lots of fun activities. A gift from the municipality of The Hague to more than 50,000 primary school children in The Hague! It is being issued for the 27th time this year. More than 100 outings, treasure hunts and workshops. Taster lessons in music or sports. You can use it to go to museums or the swimming pool. All at a discount or even for free and valid until 20 August! At each activity, you get a stamp in the booklet. Extra fun is that you can always win something too. A growth animal, a ride in the Ferris wheel in Scheveningen or a night in an aeroplane at a campsite in Limburg! You can also use your VakantiePas to go to Wednesday shows at a discount or to free activities at Zuiderpark Holiday Park. The latest additions in the Holiday Pass programme can be followed online and all the children's adventures are shared on Instagram and Facebook.
