Top musicians play along with Omar Ka Orchestra and Rootz Lions on Echoes of a Pilgrim

During Echoes of a Pilgrim on Friday 20 and Saturday 21 August next, the Zuiderpark Theatre will transform into a two-day open-air stage with a world-class musical programme. These top musicians will join Omar Ka Orchestra and Rootz Lions: Zane Wayne Massey, Efe Erdem, Arthur Flink, Bao Sissoko and Abdoulaye Oké Sene. All renowned in their craft. Prepare for an ecstatic mix of afrobeat, funk, reggae, hip-hop, world music, jazz, indie, spoken word and more. What all these styles have in common? The roots lead back to the pilgrims who left the Netherlands some 400 years ago. In addition to Rootz Lions and Omar Ka Orchestra with their special guests, the overall line-up includes these artists: DJ Gea Russell, Elyas Khan, Kiala And The Afroblaster and Kaito Winse. After a successful edition in Rotterdam, organiser Grounds joins forces with The Hague's open-air theatre.

On Friday night 20 August, Rootz Lions will be the closing act. This band with Dutch, Surinamese roots played live at several festivals in Rotterdam and toured with international roots reggae artists. They will be joined by Zane Wayne Massey, American jazz saxophonist and son of the legendary Cal Massey, Turkish trombonist Efe Erdem and Rotterdam trumpeter Arthur Flink. On Saturday night 21 August, Omar Ka Orchestra is the closing artist. The fulani singer and storyteller brings internationally recognised kora player Bao Sissoko and master drummer Abdoulaye Oké Sène who is on his 10e was already percussionist of the 'Ballet des Africaines de Sangomar'.

Practical information
Tickets are available at €10,- p.p via www.zuiderparktheater.nl. The concerts take place outdoors for up to 280 adults. At all performances, all visitors are seated 1.5 metres away from each other. There is a marked one-way walking route on the grounds and a health check takes place at the gate. A test or vaccination certificate is not required to visit the theatre.
